26/11 Conspiracy Accused Tahawwur Rana Appears Before Delhi Court

Tahawwur Rana

Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was produced before a Delhi court on Monday, where the court reserved its order on the NIA’s plea seeking a 12-day extension of his custody.

On April 11, the court had earlier granted an 18-day police custody remand, mandating strict adherence to legal protocols, including medical evaluations every 48 hours. Rana, who faces charges of conspiracy, murder, terrorism, and forgery, was brought before the NIA Special Court on April 10 following his arrival at Delhi’s IGI Airport.

During the earlier remand hearing, the court acknowledged evidence suggesting a large-scale terror conspiracy spanning multiple cities, with possible international dimensions. Given Rana’s health concerns and the assurances provided during the extradition process, the court also directed that he receive appropriate medical care.

Rana, a close associate of David Headley—the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai attacks—was extradited to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his final appeal against extradition on April 4.

The 26/11 attacks, carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists, targeted multiple locations across Mumbai, resulting in the deaths of 166 people over a harrowing 60-hour siege.
