AHMEDABAD: In response to a confirmed Zika virus case in Gandhinagar, health teams conducted extensive surveys in approximately 400 households across nearby sectors. Officials reported no additional cases detected during this follow-up.

The case involves a 75-year-old man from Sector 5, who was initially admitted to a Gandhinagar hospital with high-grade fever, rashes, and other Zika-like symptoms. He was later transferred to a private hospital in Ahmedabad. Nilam Patel, Additional Director of Public Health, confirmed that the patient’s test sample, sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, was returned positive on October 28. The patient, in stable condition, had already been discharged before the confirmation.

Health officials surveyed households in Sectors 4, 5, 6, and 13 for Zika symptoms and potential mosquito breeding sites. Around Diwali, fogging and door-to-door checks were also conducted. “We screened 67 pregnant women in the area, and none showed Zika symptoms,” an official added.
