LUCKNOW: Setting the tone for the political campaign in Amethi and Rae Bareli, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi delivered a passionate and rousing speech to party cadre at the Rae Bareli office on Monday evening.

Highlighting the historical significance of Rae Bareli and Amethi as bastions of truth and democratic values, Priyanka emphasized the enduring commitment of the people to uphold public interests above all else. She remarked, “This soil is where the blood and sweat of our ancestors mingled… for us, this is the most sacred land… we will protect it not just for ourselves but for the dignity of every citizen in our villages, towns, districts, and nation.”

Asserting that the 2024 Lok Sabha election is a matter of personal pride for her and every Congress member, Priyanka underscored its broader significance in preserving the principles of democracy.

While Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli, KL Sharma is vying for Amethi. The elections for these constituencies are scheduled for May 20, marking the fifth phase of the seven-phase general election.

Recalling the farmer’s agitation spearheaded by her maternal grandfather, former Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, and his father Motilal Nehru, Priyanka highlighted Rae Bareli’s deep-rooted association with national interests.

“This message from here (Rae Bareli – Amethi) is a call to safeguard Indian democracy, and not only our nation but the world is watching,” she remarked.

Priyanka credited the unwavering commitment and unconditional support of the cadre for thwarting the divisive agenda of the BJP in the past.

“With 329 hours remaining until the polls, allocate a few hours for rest and sleep… the rest, leave it to me… together, we will protect our homeland,” she urged, as workers echoed slogans in her support.

She concluded by announcing her intention to camp in Amethi and Rae Bareli until 5 pm on May 18, the deadline for the fifth phase campaign.
