HAMIRPUR: Union Minister Anurag Thakur officially entered the electoral fray by filing his nomination from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency on Monday. Accompanied by senior BJP leaders and his brother Arun Dhumal, chairman of the Indian Premier League, Thakur is vying for a fifth consecutive term in the Lok Sabha from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur seat.
Prior to submitting his nomination papers, Thakur sought blessings at the temple of Maa Awahdevi and engaged with the local populace at various locations. His presence drew enthusiastic responses, with hundreds of party members and residents offering floral garlands and extending their best wishes.
Over the weekend, Thakur led a grand roadshow from his hometown of Samirpur to Hamirpur, covering a distance of approximately 35 kilometers, accompanied by thousands of supporters and locals.
In opposition, the Congress has nominated Satpal Raizada, a former MLA of Una, to contest against Anurag Thakur.
The polling for all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh is scheduled for the final phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on June 1. Simultaneously, by-elections for six assembly seats in the state, left vacant due to the disqualification of rebel Congress MLAs, will also take place.
