LUCKNOW: In her first reaction following the Lok Sabha election results declared on Tuesday, BSP national president Mayawati thanked the Jatavs in Uttar Pradesh, acknowledging that people from her caste predominantly supported her. She admitted that the party failed to convince Muslim voters, stating, “From now on, the party will carefully consider its Muslim candidates to avoid significant losses like this time.”
The BSP did not secure any seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, despite contesting 79 seats in Uttar Pradesh. This election cycle, the party fielded 20 Muslim candidates, the highest representation among any community selected by the BSP. However, the party’s vote share significantly declined to 9.3% in 2024 from 19.4% in 2019.
