Historic First: Transgenders Attend Modi Government Oath Ceremony

News on the Go

Sonam Chisti, an advocate for her community through the UP Transgender Kalyan Board, was among the transgender community members attending the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Overwhelmed, Chisti cited the invitation for transgender political activists and supporters as a significant gesture of inclusion.

This marked the first time a delegation from the transgender community was invited to a swearing-in ceremony. Approximately 25 community members were present at the event. Chisti, associated with the UP BJP unit, mentioned that she and other community members from various states attended to bless the new government. “We have full confidence in our PM,” she said.

In addition to the transgender community, sanitation workers and laborers involved in constructing the new Parliament building were also invited. Before the ceremony, BJP MP and former Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar honored the community members at his residence.
