News on the GO

NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the Congress expressed strong disapproval of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent allocation of the Parliamentary Affairs portfolio, arguing that it signals no intent for a change in how Parliament will be managed compared to the last decade. The opposition party emphasized that the INDIA bloc is resolute in effectively representing the people’s will in both Houses of Parliament.

Kiren Rijiju has been appointed as the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, with Arjun Ram Meghwal serving as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

In a post on X, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh commented, “The allocation of the Parliamentary Affairs portfolios does not inspire confidence that the Prime Minister intends to manage Parliament any differently than he has over the past ten years.”

He added, “Regardless of the ‘divine’ signals, the INDIA Janbandhan is firmly committed to reflecting the will and mandate of the people in Parliament.”

The opposition INDIA bloc, having gained strength with 235 members in the Lok Sabha, aims to challenge the government on key issues affecting the public, such as price rises and unemployment.
