NEW DELHI: Two back-to-back earthquakes shook Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday morning, causing widespread panic throughout the valley.
The first tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, struck at 6:45 am with its epicenter in Baramulla district, north Kashmir. The quake occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers, located at a latitude of 34.17°N and a longitude of 74.16°E.
Just seven minutes later, at 6:52 am, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 hit the same area. This tremor originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, with the epicenter at a latitude of 34.20°N and a longitude of 74.31°E.
Despite the intensity of these quakes, officials confirmed that no loss of life or property damage has been reported. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of residents.
