NEW DELHI: As Gujarat faces the devastating effects of relentless rains and widespread flooding, Congress took a dig at the BJP’s much-touted “Gujarat Model.” In a post on X, Congress shared a video of a flooded city and a house-like structure being swept away by the rising waters, sarcastically mocking the state’s development claims under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi expressed deep concern over the worsening flood situation in the state. Both leaders urged the government to take swift and necessary actions to mitigate the disaster’s impact.
In his post on X, Kharge stressed the gravity of the situation, offering condolences to families who have lost loved ones and highlighting the urgent need for food, medical aid, and shelter for those displaced. The floods have already claimed 16 lives over the past two days, with over 8,500 people being evacuated and rescued from affected areas.
Relief efforts are being coordinated by various agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, the Army, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally reached out to Gujarat’s chief minister Bhupendra Patel to assess the situation and ensure the Centre’s full support in managing the ongoing crisis.
Rahul Gandhi also conveyed his condolences to those who lost family members and property. He called on Congress workers to assist in relief and rescue operations, urging the government to expedite the reconstruction and rehabilitation process to help affected individuals rebuild their lives.
