NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his birth anniversary at the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat. Arriving at the world’s tallest statue in Ekta Nagar, Narmada district, PM Modi offered floral tributes to the Iron Man of India.

The Prime Minister observed the National Security Guard (NSG) parade for ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas,’ held to honor Patel’s contributions to India’s unity. PM Modi also led the unity oath at the ceremony, which featured 16 contingents from nine states, one Union Territory police force, four Central Armed Police Forces, the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and a marching band.

In his address at the event, PM Modi remarked, “Sardar Patel’s powerful voice, this grand program near the Statue of Unity, this panoramic view of Ekta Nagar, and the wonderful performances here are all so inspiring. Like August 15 and January 26, the 31st of October fills the whole nation with new energy. Happy National Unity Day to all my fellow citizens.”

Following the parade, PM Modi watched an air show by the Indian Air Force’s Suryakiran Aerobatic Team. In a Hindi tweet, he expressed his admiration for Sardar Patel, stating, “On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, I pay my deepest respects. The unity and sovereignty of the nation were his highest priorities. His life and work will continue to inspire every generation.”

During his two-day visit to Gujarat, PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation for new projects and tourist attractions worth ₹284 crore. Since 2014, Patel’s birth anniversary has been observed on October 31 as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ or National Unity Day.
