Congress MP Mukul Wasnik took a sharp dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), criticizing their long-standing tradition of never having a woman in the top leadership positions. Speaking in Parliament, Wasnik pointed out the glaring gender disparity in the leadership of these organizations, which he claimed undermines their commitment to gender equality.
“Despite their rhetoric on women empowerment, the BJP and RSS have never appointed a woman as their head. This speaks volumes about their priorities and the true extent of their inclusivity,” Wasnik remarked.
The Congress leader further emphasized the importance of representation, stating that meaningful progress in gender equality requires women to hold positions of power. “Tokenism is not enough. True empowerment is when women lead from the front,” he added.
While BJP leaders dismissed Wasnik’s comments as political posturing, opposition parties supported his stance, urging all political organizations to prioritize gender inclusivity at every level of leadership.
The issue of gender representation in Indian politics continues to be a topic of heated debate, with critics highlighting the need for systemic changes to ensure greater participation of women in leadership roles across party lines.
