‘One Who Wears ₹10 Lakh Suit Shouldn’t Talk About Sheesh Mahal’: Kejriwal Responds to PM Modi

Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal delivered a sharp retort to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism, highlighting alleged hypocrisy in his remarks. Kejriwal’s response came after PM Modi indirectly referred to the Delhi CM’s official residence as a “sheesh mahal” (glass palace) during a recent address.

Kejriwal, in a public statement, said, “A person who once wore a ₹10 lakh suit with his name stitched all over it has no moral authority to comment on anyone’s residence. Instead of focusing on irrelevant issues, the government should address the pressing problems of the common people.”

The reference to the ₹10 lakh suit is a nod to the custom-made outfit worn by PM Modi during a high-profile meeting with former US President Barack Obama in 2015, which later sparked widespread debate.

Political Jousting Over Residences

The comment from PM Modi on “sheesh mahal” appeared to criticize the expenditure on refurbishing the Delhi CM’s official residence. Kejriwal, however, defended the renovations, asserting they were essential maintenance work on an aging structure.

“They are trying to distract people from real issues like inflation, unemployment, and public welfare. The people of India are wise and understand this game,” Kejriwal added.

A Larger Political Narrative

The exchange underscores the ongoing political rivalry between the BJP-led central government and Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Both parties have frequently clashed on governance, public spending, and ideological differences.

Political analysts suggest that this spat reflects a broader effort by both sides to appeal to their core voter bases ahead of upcoming elections.
