NEW DELHI: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recreated his famous “Stupid, stupid, stupid” moment on live television just before the IPL 2025 showdown between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.
His remark came in response to a query about LSG’s aggressive batting strategy this season.
Gavaskar’s Sharp Response
With LSG missing key players like Mohsin Khan (ruled out of the tournament) and speedster Mayank Yadav (unavailable), injuries have plagued the team. Before the match, a presenter asked Gavaskar whether the absence of frontline bowlers was influencing LSG’s attacking approach with the bat.
Gavaskar, seizing the moment, took a playful dig at Rishabh Pant.
“I wish you had asked me this question a little earlier because I just spent some time with Rishabh Pant. I would have certainly asked him if that was the reason why they are playing like this. Maybe he would have responded, ‘Stupid, stupid, stupid question,’” Gavaskar quipped.
He then elaborated on LSG’s batting intent:
“When you look at players like Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh, they are naturally aggressive. That’s just their style of play, and it’s exciting to watch. And then there’s Rishabh Pant coming down the order. They have a strong batting lineup and know that if their top bowlers are missing, they need to put more runs on the board to give their remaining bowlers a cushion in case they have an off day.”
LSG’s Campaign So Far
Lucknow Super Giants have played two matches in IPL 2025, securing one win and suffering one defeat. Their approach remains under scrutiny, but with power-hitters in the lineup, their aggressive strategy could be key to success this season.
