HYDERABAD: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s ultra-aggressive batting philosophy, which propelled them to the IPL final last season, is facing serious questions in IPL 2025. With their top-order struggling and three consecutive defeats pushing them to the bottom of the points table, Pat Cummins’ men may be forced to rethink their high-risk approach.
The 2016 champions will look to course-correct when they host Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday — their first home game since the row over free ticket allocations.

SRH skipper Pat Cummins, a firm believer in the team’s aggressive style, admitted the approach hasn’t yielded results recently.
“You have to be realistic — three games in a row, it has not come off for us. Our batters are at our best when taking it on, but you have to consider whether different options are needed,” Cummins said after their 80-run defeat to KKR.
Top-Order Woes Haunt SRH
Despite posting a mammoth 286 against Rajasthan Royals in their opener — the second-highest total of the season — SRH’s top order has since faltered:
- Travis Head has failed in the last two outings.
- Abhishek Sharma, once a dependable powerplay aggressor, has scored just 33 runs in four matches.
- Ishan Kishan, after a century on debut, has struggled to replicate his form.
The collapse at the top has left the middle-order — comprising Nitish Kumar Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, and Aniket Verma — with too much to do. Recent totals of 190 vs LSG, 163 vs DC, and 120 vs KKR have not given the bowling unit enough to defend.
Bowling Unit Under Pressure
The bowlers haven’t fared much better:
- Cummins has leaked runs at 12.30 per over.
- Adam Zampa has an economy of 11.75.
- Mohammed Shami has conceded at 10 RPO and hasn’t bowled his full quota.
Only leg-spinner Zeeshan Ali has impressed with consistent spells.
