Pakistani troops violate ceasefire along LoC for third night in a row; Indian Army responds

LOC

NEW DELHI: For the third consecutive night, Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire agreement by resorting to unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, officials told PTI on Sunday. Indian Army soldiers “responded effectively” to the latest provocation, they added.

“On the intervening night of April 26-27, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Tutmari Gali and Rampur sectors,” the officials said. Indian troops responded “appropriately with small arms fire,” they confirmed.

The latest incident follows similar violations reported on the nights of April 24-25 and 25-26, when Pakistani forces opened fire at multiple locations along the LoC. Defence officials said there have been no casualties so far, and that Indian forces continue to maintain firm control along the border.

These repeated ceasefire breaches come amid heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen were killed at Baisaran meadow, with several others injured.

In response to the attack, security forces have launched widespread cordon-and-search operations in Anantnag district, detaining around 175 suspects to dismantle terrorist support networks. Additional mobile vehicle checkpoints have been established along key highways, including the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch stretch, while forces remain on high alert.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi recently visited Srinagar to review the security situation. He was briefed on the ongoing counterterror operations as well as Pakistan’s repeated ceasefire violations.
