Air India Chicago-Delhi Flight Returns After 10 Hours Due to Toilet Malfunction

Air India Chicago-Delhi Flight Returns

NEW DELHI: An Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was forced to turn back after more than 10 hours in the air on Thursday due to technical issues—specifically, the failure of multiple onboard toilets.

According to PTI sources, the Boeing 777-337 ER aircraft, which can accommodate over 340 passengers across first, business, and economy classes, has 10 toilets, including two reserved for first-class travelers. However, only one toilet remained operational, making it impossible to continue the journey.

Flight tracking website Flightradar24.com confirmed that the aircraft returned to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) after being airborne for more than 10 hours.

Passengers Provided Accommodation and Refund Options

An Air India spokesperson stated that upon landing in Chicago, all passengers and crew disembarked normally and were provided with accommodation to minimize inconvenience.

“Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to their destination,” the airline said in a statement.

Additionally, passengers were offered full refunds for cancellations and free rescheduling options if they wished to rebook their journey.
