NEW DELHI: An Air India flight en route from Mumbai to New York was diverted to Delhi on Monday following a bomb threat. Mumbai airport authorities received a threatening message on X (formerly Twitter), prompting immediate security measures and rerouting the flight to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

Delhi Police confirmed the aircraft’s safe landing at IGI Airport, where standard safety protocols were initiated to ensure the well-being of all passengers and crew members. Security agencies are on high alert, conducting thorough inspections of the plane.

A senior Delhi airport official urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, stating, “We request cooperation during this process, and further updates will be provided.”

An Air India spokesperson commented, “Flight AI119, operating from Mumbai to JFK on October 14, received a specific security alert. As per instructions from the government’s security regulatory committee, the flight was diverted to Delhi. All passengers have safely disembarked and are being accommodated at the terminal. We are doing our best to minimize any inconvenience caused by this disruption. The safety and security of our passengers and crew remain Air India’s top priority.”

Recent weeks have seen several bomb threats targeting airports, though many turned out to be false alarms. On October 5, Indore’s Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport and Vadodara Airport both received bomb threat emails, leading to searches and FIRs being filed.
