Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding India’s participation in the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan, former Pakistani cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq has voiced his opinion on the matter.

“If they don’t want to come, it’s their decision,” Mushtaq stated, reflecting on the geopolitical tensions and security concerns that have led to doubts about India’s travel plans.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has expressed reservations about sending the national team to Pakistan, citing safety concerns and the strained political relations between the two countries. This hesitation has cast a shadow over the upcoming tournament, raising questions about its feasibility and the potential impact on cricketing ties between the two nations.

Mushtaq emphasized the importance of separating sports from politics and called for mutual respect and understanding. “Cricket should be about the game and not politics. We need to respect each other’s decisions but also strive to find ways to keep the spirit of the sport alive,” he added.

As the debate continues, the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other stakeholders are closely monitoring the situation, hoping for a resolution that allows the Champions Trophy to proceed smoothly while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
