NEW DELHI: In a major show of strength, the Indian Army successfully intercepted and shot down over 50 swarm drones during multiple Pakistani attempts to breach the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border on Thursday night, according to military sources.
The Army’s air defence units launched a coordinated counter-drone operation across key sectors including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot. Advanced weaponry such as L-70 guns, Zu-23mm systems, Schilka platforms, and specialized counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) were deployed to neutralize the threat.
Operation Sindoor: Conflict Escalates
The drone incursions came just a day after Indian forces conducted precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor. The military action reportedly killed over 100 terrorists, as stated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during an all-party meeting.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Army stated, “Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire western border during the intervening night of May 8 and 9. Pak troops also engaged in numerous ceasefire violations (CFVs) along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.”
It added, “The drone attacks were effectively repulsed, and a strong response was delivered to the ceasefire violations.”
On the night of May 7 and 8, Indian forces continued Operation Sindoor as Pakistan escalated its aggression with heavy shelling and CFVs along the LoC. The Indian military employed the advanced S-400 Sudarshan Chakra missile defence system to intercept drones and missiles targeting 15 Indian cities, successfully safeguarding military installations.
India’s integrated air defence and counter-UAS grid prevented any damage to domestic assets. Officials later recovered debris from downed Pakistani drones and missiles at multiple locations, confirming the scale of the attempted assault.
