BJP MP Demands Privilege Proceedings Against Rahul Gandhi for ‘Baseless Allegations’

NEW DELHI: A BJP MP has formally requested privilege proceedings against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreading “gibberish canards” during a parliamentary session. The demand comes in response to Gandhi’s remarks, which the BJP claims were defamatory and disrupted the decorum of the House.

Speaking to the media, the BJP MP criticized Gandhi for making “unsubstantiated and misleading allegations” against the government and its policies. “Parliament is a place for serious discussions, not baseless rhetoric. His statements have undermined the dignity of the House and deserve immediate action,” the MP asserted.

The controversy centers around Gandhi’s speech, where he criticized the government’s handling of key issues, including economic policies and national security. His remarks prompted strong objections from BJP members, leading to a heated exchange on the House floor.

The BJP MP has urged the Speaker to initiate privilege proceedings to hold Gandhi accountable for his statements. “This is not the first time he has used the platform irresponsibly. We must uphold the sanctity of parliamentary discussions,” the MP added.

Congress, meanwhile, defended Gandhi’s comments, stating that he was merely holding the government accountable. “The BJP is attempting to silence dissent by targeting Rahul Gandhi. We stand by his statements, which reflect the concerns of millions of Indians,” a senior Congress leader remarked.

As the controversy unfolds, political analysts believe the move to seek privilege proceedings could further intensify the ongoing tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Parliament.
