NEW DELHI: The Congress has filed an FIR against BJP president JP Nadda, party’s IT cell head Amit Malviya, and Karnataka unit chief B Y Vijayendra for allegedly intimidating members of the SC and ST communities not to vote for a particular candidate.
According to the police, the FIR has been registered under sections of the Representation of People Act and Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to statements promoting enmity between classes.
The complaint lodged by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee refers to a video uploaded on the social media platform ‘X’ by the official account of Karnataka State BJP, allegedly operated by Malviya under the instructions of Nadda, Vijayendra, and the Social Media in-charge of Karnataka BJP, on May 4.
The video features animated characters of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, portraying the SC, ST, and OBC communities as “eggs” in a nest. Additionally, it suggests Rahul Gandhi planting a big egg labeled as the Muslim community, depicting funds being fed to this “chick” while it purportedly excludes the SC, ST, and OBC communities.
The complaint alleges that such actions “wantonly provoke rioting” and “promote enmity between different religions,” apart from intimidating SC/ST community members not to vote for a specific candidate and causing enmity against them.
This action comes after the KPCC filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission and the police on Sunday, alleging a violation of the model code of conduct.
