Delhi Govt Approves Mahila Samridhi Yojana, Rs 2,500 Aid for Women from Economically Weaker Sections

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Saturday approved the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, a welfare scheme aimed at providing Rs 2,500 per month to women from economically weaker sections. BJP national president JP Nadda made the announcement, calling it a major step toward women’s empowerment.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while unveiling the scheme on Women’s Day, said, “Fulfilling our election promise, the cabinet has approved the scheme to support women in need. We have allocated Rs 5,100 crore in the Delhi budget for its implementation. A dedicated committee, led by me, will oversee the process, and registrations will begin soon through a dedicated portal.”

The scheme was a key highlight of the BJP’s manifesto and played a significant role in its election campaign to gain power in the national capital.

Eligibility Criteria

According to officials, the eligibility requirements include:

✅ Annual income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh
✅ Age group between 18 to 60 years

Delhi Minister Ashish Sood hailed the move, stating, “This is a historic decision by the Delhi government. Unlike others, we believe in action, not just promises. The registration portal will be launched soon, and beneficiaries will start receiving financial assistance shortly.”
