KODERMA: Eco-friendly voting booths, established to promote environmental protection and a plastic-free society, have become a major attraction for voters in Jharkhand’s Koderma district. Two polling booths, numbered 92 and 93, were set up at an old-age home in Jhumri Telaiya under the Koderma Lok Sabha constituency.
These booths were adorned with bamboo and paddy straws, as per an official from the Jhumri Telaiya Nagar Parishad. “I found the theme of the booth very interesting. We should protect our democracy by participating in voting and save the environment by planting trees and reducing the use of plastics,” said 58-year-old voter Sudeep Mandal, who cast his vote at one of the green booths.
“The booth sends a dual message: voting is important, and so is the environment. Banners and posters with messages like ‘Say No to Plastic’ and ‘Save Environment’ will raise awareness among the youth,” added another voter, Lalita Devi, 45.
Additionally, selfie points were set up at the booths, allowing voters to take selfies after voting and share their photos on social media. Neelam Kumari, City Mission Manager of Jhumri Telaiya Nagar Parishad, stated that the green booth was designed to emphasize the themes of a plastic-free society and environmental protection.
In a supportive move for physically challenged voters, 30 e-rickshaws were deployed across different booths in Koderma and Jhumri Telaiya. By 1 pm on Monday, the Koderma parliamentary constituency had registered a polling turnout of 42.73 percent.
