NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of making Hindi an acceptable, flexible, and conversational language, rather than imposing it, during the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Official Language and the 4th Akhil Bharatiya Rajbhasha Sammelan. Speaking on the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Shah stressed that promoting Hindi should involve strengthening all Indian regional languages and fostering harmony among them.
“There cannot be any competition between Hindi and other Indian languages. Hindi is a friend of all Indian languages,” Shah said, underscoring that Hindi must gain wider acceptance through encouragement, not compulsion. He also highlighted the need for Hindi and regional languages to complement one another for linguistic unity.
Shah further emphasized the role of mothers in preserving India’s linguistic diversity, urging parents to speak to their children in their native language to help sustain cultural identity and language heritage.
