Harbhajan Singh, one of India’s finest off-spinners, recently opened up about his lack of communication with former teammate and captain MS Dhoni. Despite sharing historic victories like the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and playing together for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, Harbhajan revealed that their interaction is now nonexistent.
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni,” Harbhajan told News18. “I don’t have anything against him. If he had something to say, he would have told me by now.”
The veteran spinner, who claimed 417 wickets in 103 Tests, noted that his communication with Dhoni was limited to on-field discussions during their CSK days. “When I was at CSK, we spoke during matches. But it’s been over 10 years. We haven’t interacted outside the ground. He didn’t come to my room, and I didn’t go to his,” Harbhajan said.
Harbhajan also mentioned that Dhoni doesn’t respond to his calls, which has influenced his decision to stop reaching out. “I only call those who pick up. Relationships are about mutual respect. If I call once or twice and don’t get a response, I don’t pursue it further,” he added.
Despite the distance, Harbhajan emphasized that he remains connected with friends who reciprocate and values relationships built on mutual effort. Now retired, Harbhajan has transitioned to cricket commentary and continues to engage with the sport in new ways.
