NEW DELHI: The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet set sail for Sudan on Friday, carrying over two tons of life-saving medicines, including anti-cancer drugs, as part of India’s ongoing humanitarian assistance efforts.

The mission, led by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), aims to provide critical medical support to Sudan, where conflict and humanitarian challenges have severely impacted healthcare access.

Earlier in the day, ICGS Sachet also departed for Djibouti, transporting 20 haemodialysis machines and a reverse osmosis (RO) plant, further reinforcing India’s commitment to global humanitarian aid.

The ongoing war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has left over 25 million people across Sudan, South Sudan, and Chad in dire need of food and medical assistance, with at least 17 million people in Sudan facing an escalating hunger crisis, according to the World Food Programme (WFP).

India continues to extend its global humanitarian outreach, having recently sent 26 tons of disaster relief material to Honduras and a medical aid consignment to Iraq’s Kurdistan region, reaffirming its role as a global partner in crisis response.
