IPL 2025: Rajasthan Royals Fined Heavily Despite First Win of the Season Against CSK

Sports

Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered their first win of IPL 2025 with a convincing victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but the joy was short-lived as they were slapped with a hefty fine for maintaining a slow over rate during the match. Despite securing a crucial win, RR skipper Sanju Samson faced penalties for breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate requirements.

According to an IPL statement, RR were fined ₹12 lakh for their first over-rate offence of the season. The penalty was imposed after the team fell behind the stipulated time to complete their 20 overs during CSK’s chase.

As per IPL regulations, a team’s captain is fined ₹12 lakh for the first offence, ₹24 lakh for the second, and ₹30 lakh along with a one-match suspension for the third offence. Samson’s penalty serves as a reminder for teams to adhere to the league’s strict over-rate policies.

Despite the fine, RR’s victory provided a much-needed boost to their campaign. They will aim to maintain their winning momentum while ensuring they avoid further penalties in upcoming matches.
