NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched a commanding 50-run victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the eighth match of the 2025 Indian Premier League, ending their 17-year winless streak at Chepauk. The win was powered by stellar performances from Rajat Patidar and Josh Hazlewood.
Batting first after being put in by CSK, RCB posted a competitive 196/7. The innings was anchored by Patidar’s composed 51 off 32 balls, featuring four boundaries and three sixes, at a brisk strike rate of 159.38. His knock provided stability after early wickets and set the platform for a late flourish. Tim David’s unbeaten 22 off 8 balls ensured RCB crossed the 190-run mark despite regular setbacks.
Josh Hazlewood then stole the show with the ball, delivering a sensational opening spell that shattered CSK’s chase. He dismissed Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over and later accounted for Ravindra Jadeja, finishing with impressive figures of 3/21 in his four overs. His disciplined bowling left CSK reeling at 34/3, making the chase an uphill task.
CSK struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals. While MS Dhoni staged a late fightback with an unbeaten 30 off 16 balls, smashing two sixes and three fours, it wasn’t enough to rescue CSK, who ended their innings at 146/8.
RCB’s emphatic win, powered by Hazlewood’s early breakthroughs and Patidar’s crucial contribution, secured their first triumph at Chepauk since 2008. RCB will next take on Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, while CSK head to Guwahati to face Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
