IPL 2025: Shubman Gill Left Fuming After Controversial Run-Out Call in GT vs SRH Clash

Controversial Run-Out Decision

NEW DELHI: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was visibly upset after a contentious run-out decision during their IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. Despite the controversy, GT secured a comprehensive 38-run victory, bolstering their playoff hopes.

The incident unfolded in the 13th over of Gujarat’s innings when Jos Buttler nudged a delivery from Zeeshan Ansari towards short fine leg and called for a quick single. Harshal Patel reacted swiftly, darted in, and launched a direct throw toward the striker’s end.

Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen, positioned in front of the stumps, attempted a gloved deflection onto the stumps. The run-out call was sent upstairs for review.

The third umpire examined multiple angles to determine whether the stumps were broken by Klaasen’s gloves or the ball itself. After lengthy deliberation, it was ruled that the ball had made contact with the stumps, citing visible deviation post-deflection as the key indicator.

Gill, who had been in sublime form, was clearly stunned by the decision and expressed visible frustration while walking back. He later appeared to exchange words with TV umpire Michael Gough after returning to the dugout.

Prior to the controversial dismissal, Gill had delivered a masterful innings, smashing 76 off just 38 balls to lay a strong foundation for Gujarat’s total.

Earlier in the evening, SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Sunrisers fielded an unchanged XI, while GT made a solitary change—Gerald Coetzee replaced Karim Janat in the playing eleven.
