NEW DELHI: Following the Indian Premier League 2024 match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday, the skipper of Gujarat Titans, Shubman Gill, has been fined 25 percent of his match fees for maintaining a slow over rate.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL jointly issued a statement confirming the penalty, noting it as the team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rate violations.
Consequently, Gill has been fined INR 24 lakh, highlighting the seriousness of the infraction.
Additionally, as per IPL regulations, the other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, faced individual fines of either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, depending on which amount was lesser.
“The team’s second offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rate offenses led to Gill’s fine of INR 24 lakh. Each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, received individual fines of either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser,” stated the BCCI/IPL.
While the disciplinary action against Gill emphasizes the importance of adhering to over rate regulations, the Titans’ performance on the field demonstrated their formidable strength. Gill, along with B Sai Sudharsan, led an exceptional assault on the Chennai Super Kings’ bowling attack, both achieving centuries.
Their outstanding batting propelled the Gujarat Titans to a commanding 35-run victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Despite the over rate penalty setback, the Titans’ resounding win has kept their slim playoff hopes alive.
