NEW DELHI: Coldplay’s Mumbai concert on Saturday turned into a unique blend of music and cricket, leaving fans delighted at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
During one of the closing songs, Coldplay’s lead vocalist Chris Martin surprised the audience with an unexpected mention of India’s star cricketer Jasprit Bumrah.
Martin quipped, “Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage,” drawing loud cheers from the crowd. He added humorously, “He [Bumrah] says he needs to bowl at me now.”
The crowd, particularly cricket enthusiasts, erupted with excitement, speculating whether Bumrah might make a surprise appearance on stage. Although the cricketer did not show up, Martin’s playful shout-out to Bumrah left fans buzzing with joy.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was recently named Player of the Series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, has been in stellar form. He took an impressive 32 wickets in the five-match series against Australia and captained India in the first and final Tests, further solidifying his position as one of cricket’s finest players.
Coldplay’s India tour continues with two more performances in Mumbai on January 19 and January 21, before the band heads to Ahmedabad for back-to-back shows on January 25 and 26.
