VARANASI: BJP President JP Nadda declared on Monday that as long as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are in power, there will be no reservations based on religion. Accusing the opposition of planning to implement religion-based reservations, he emphasized, “The Constitution clearly states there will be no such reservation.”
Speaking to reporters, Nadda asserted, “As long as PM Modi and the BJP are in power, there will be no religion-based reservation.” He was in Varanasi to campaign for Modi, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Varanasi for the third time.
Nadda assured that the BJP would protect the reservations for Dalits, tribals, backward, and extremely backward classes from any encroachment. “You will see what will happen to the opposition on June 4 (the vote counting day),” he stated.
At an intellectuals’ meeting, Nadda remarked, “For a long time, politics meant ‘divide and rule’, but now ‘politics of development’ is prevailing.” Reflecting on the political landscape a decade ago, he said, “India was seen as corrupt, and the common man’s faith in politics was broken. This was a threat to democracy, but over the past 10 years, PM Modi has restored trust in the country’s development.”
Nadda criticized the opposition for fostering casteism and divisions based on religion and region. “Prime Minister Modi has disrupted this culture. Today, development politics, based on ‘sabka saath, sabka prayaas, aur sabka vishwas’ (everyone’s support, effort, and trust), is the foundation.”
During his visit, Nadda also offered prayers at the Kaal Bhairav temple. “Whenever I come to Varanasi, I pay obeisance at the Kal Bhairav temple, Sankat Mochan, and Kashi Vishwanath temple. Kashi, a religious city that upholds Sanatan Dharma, invigorates me,” he shared.
Varanasi, where Prime Minister Modi is contesting, will go to the polls on June 1. The Congress has fielded its state president Ajay Rai for the seat.
“I have prayed for societal well-being, peace, happiness, and strength for the development works initiated under the Narendra Modi government. Modi will become PM for the third time with over 400 seats,” Nadda concluded. He will be addressing several meetings in the city throughout the day.
