Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar to Join Rahul Gandhi’s Campaign in Raebareli

Election

Karnataka Deputy CM, D K Shivakumar, announced his intention to campaign for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, where Gandhi is contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Expressing confidence in the INDI Alliance’s prospects, Shivakumar stated his belief in their potential to form the next government in India.

“I’m heading to Raebareli for election campaigning in Uttar Pradesh,” Shivakumar said, adding, “I’ll be away from Bengaluru for two days, starting today. I’ve requested no birthday celebrations at my residence tomorrow (May 15), given the prevailing circumstances.”

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar highlighted the historical significance of Raebareli, previously represented by Rahul’s mother, Sonia Gandhi, and grandparents, Indira and Feroze Gandhi. The constituency is scheduled for voting on May 20, during the fifth phase of the general election. Rahul Gandhi is also contesting from the Wayanad segment in Kerala.

In light of the severe drought in Karnataka, Shivakumar urged his supporters to refrain from celebrating his birthday and advised against visiting his residence or office during his absence for election campaigning.

Responding to reports of Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde’s remarks on replicating the ‘Maharashtra model’ to unsettle the Karnataka Congress government, Shivakumar expressed skepticism, suggesting potential challenges within Shinde’s own administration.
