NEW DELHI: The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has suspended 28 rebel candidates for contesting against the official nominees of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition in the upcoming assembly elections. Initially, 21 candidates were suspended on Sunday, but by the end of the day, seven additional names were added, totaling 28 candidates across 22 constituencies.

Among those suspended are notable figures such as former minister Rajendra Mulak (Ramtek), Yagnyavalk Jichkar (Katol), Kamal Vyawhare (Kasba), Manoj Shinde (Kopri Pachpakhadi), and Aaba Bagul (Parvati).

Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala reiterated the party’s stance on discipline, stating, “All party rebels contesting against official MVA candidates will face a six-year suspension.” The move underscores the party’s effort to maintain cohesion within its ranks ahead of the elections.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are set for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
