NEW DELHI: As Australia prepares to host India for a five-match Test series starting November 22, star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh spoke about the camaraderie between the players of both teams, despite the intense competition on the field.

The highly anticipated series will once again see India and Australia battling for the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India has dominated recent encounters, winning the last four series, including two memorable triumphs on Australian soil in 2018-19 and 2020-21. In total, India has claimed the trophy ten times, while Australia has won it five times, with their last victory coming in the 2014-15 series and their last win in India dating back to 2004-05.

Marsh emphasized the unique rivalry between the two cricketing giants and how it contributes to the global promotion of the sport. “I think it’s just the cricket that’s been played between the two teams. If you look at the recent history, we’ve won some, they’ve won some. That back-and-forth builds the rivalry within ourselves,” Marsh said. “There are great friendships between the Indian team and our team, so there’s no hatred. But it’s a fierce on-field rivalry—both teams want to win. Australia versus India is another opportunity to grow cricket globally.”

The series will kick off with the first Test in Perth, followed by a day-night Test in Adelaide starting December 6. The third Test will be held at The Gabba in Brisbane from December 14 to 18. Melbourne’s iconic MCG will host the Boxing Day Test from December 26 to 30, and the series will conclude with the final match at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.
