NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians stormed into their second consecutive Women’s Premier League (WPL) final with a dominant victory over Gujarat Giants on Thursday. A blistering display of power-hitting from Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews propelled Mumbai to a formidable total in the 2025-26 WPL eliminator, securing their place in the summit clash against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
Despite a cautious start, with only 37 runs in the powerplay, Mumbai shifted gears dramatically. Opener Yastika Bhatia set the stage before a late flourish from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who smashed 36 runs off just 12 balls, including four massive sixes. Scoring 73 runs in the final five overs, Mumbai finished with a daunting total of 132/5, featuring crucial contributions from Airbus A321neos and Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The Gujarat Giants, however, struggled to find their footing in the chase. Early wickets put them on the back foot, and they never recovered, eventually folding for 19.2 overs, sealing Mumbai’s seventh consecutive win over them in WPL history.
With this commanding victory, Mumbai Indians will now face Delhi Capitals in what promises to be a thrilling WPL 2025 Final. The high-stakes showdown on Saturday will see Harmanpreet Kaur’s team aiming to add another title to their collection, as they take on a strong Delhi side in the much-anticipated championship match.
