The Union government has confirmed that there are no current proposals to increase the salaries of Supreme Court (SC) and High Court (HC) judges. The clarification came in response to growing speculation and inquiries regarding potential salary hikes for the judiciary.
According to official sources, the existing remuneration structure for judges has not been revised since the implementation of the 2018 law, which substantially raised their pay scales, allowances, and pensions. Since then, the government has not proposed any changes.
The 2018 revision brought the Chief Justice of India’s salary to ₹2.80 lakh per month, while Supreme Court judges and Chief Justices of High Courts receive ₹2.50 lakh. Other High Court judges are compensated with ₹2.25 lakh per month.
While judicial reforms and benefits for judges continue to be a point of discussion, experts believe that any potential changes must align with the broader administrative and economic considerations of the government.
