Pakistan Continues Unprovoked Firing for 7th Consecutive Day; India Responds Firmly

Pakistan violates ceasefire

NEW DELHI: Pakistani forces continued their unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC) for the seventh consecutive day, the Indian Army said on Thursday, confirming that Indian troops responded in a “proportionate” manner to the latest ceasefire violations.

“During the night of April 30 to May 1, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire along the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The Indian Army responded proportionately,” Army officials told news agency ANI.

The fresh violation came despite a recent hotline conversation between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of India and Pakistan. During the exchange, the Indian DGMO reportedly warned his Pakistani counterpart against the continued violations along both the LoC and the International Border.

Tensions have remained high since the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 male tourists were killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists. India has vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and has introduced a series of retaliatory measures.

These include suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, shutting down the Integrated Check Post at Attari, reducing diplomatic staff at both High Commissions, and revoking the visas of Pakistani nationals residing in India.

The Indian government has also granted its armed forces full operational freedom to determine the nature and scale of response to the Pahalgam attack and any further cross-border aggression.
