Congress leader Pawan Khera has come to the defense of party president Mallikarjun Kharge over his recent “Ganga dip” remark, dismissing allegations that it insulted Sanatan Dharma. Speaking at a press interaction, Khera questioned the intent behind the accusations, asserting that Kharge’s comment was taken out of context for political gains.
“Kharge ji’s remarks were not aimed at offending anyone’s religious sentiments. The BJP is deliberately misrepresenting his words to divert attention from real issues,” Khera claimed.
Khera further emphasized that the Congress party has always respected the diversity of Indian religions and traditions. He accused the ruling party of exploiting religious sentiments for political advantage rather than focusing on governance and public welfare.
“The BJP needs to stop acting as the self-appointed custodian of faith. They are trying to manufacture controversies where none exist,” Khera remarked.
Kharge’s comment, which referenced a symbolic “dip in the Ganga,” was intended to highlight political cleansing rather than being a commentary on religious practices, Khera clarified. The Congress party reiterated its commitment to upholding India’s secular and inclusive values amidst mounting criticism.
