PM Highlights Karnataka Resident’s Smart Move Against Cyber Fraud in Mann Ki Baat

India

HYDERABAD: During his Mann Ki Baat episode on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi showcased a video of Santosh Patil, a resident of Vijayapura district in Karnataka, who cleverly thwarted a cyber fraud attempt. The scammers had tried to con Patil under the guise of a “Digital Arrest,” but he recorded the conversation and dodged their trap.

The video initially gained attention in September when Telangana IPS officer, VC Sajjanar, shared it on his X handle after receiving it from a local contact in Vijayapura. Impressed by the video, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tasked officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to locate Santosh for his firsthand account, which PM Modi intended to feature in Mann Ki Baat.

“I was surprised to see scammers posing in police uniforms to deceive Santosh. Thanks to his suspicion, he recorded the video, alerting many,” Sajjanar commented. Following PMO’s directive, Sajjanar helped trace Santosh’s contact after several hours of searching.

After PM Modi aired the conversation in Mann Ki Baat, Santosh expressed gratitude to Sajjanar, thanking him for bridging the connection that allowed his experience to reach millions and raise awareness about cyber fraud.
