Report: Pakistan May Withdraw from ICC Champions Trophy Amid Tensions

New Delhi: Pakistan may withdraw from hosting the ICC Champions Trophy over escalating concerns regarding India’s potential non-participation, as reported by Cricbuzz. The tournament, scheduled to take place in February-March 2025, has encountered complications with the Indian team’s willingness to play in Pakistan.

With no formal clearance from the Indian government for the team to travel to Pakistan, the possibility of a hybrid model—where matches involving India are played at neutral venues like the UAE—is being considered. However, this arrangement has reportedly led to frustration within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which has been pushing for clarity on India’s stance.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi commented on the matter, emphasizing that formal communication from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is needed. He noted, “If there are issues with the venue, we need it in writing. So far, there’s been no discussion about a hybrid model from our side.”

While the ICC remains in discussions with all participating nations, the uncertainty has also raised concerns over logistics and scheduling, with the ICC’s planned countdown event for the tournament’s launch being canceled.

As preparations for the Champions Trophy continue, Pakistan’s potential pull-out highlights the challenges of international cricket in the region, particularly regarding hosting major tournaments amidst diplomatic tensions.
