The Congress party has reiterated that the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood remains its top priority. Speaking ahead of upcoming elections, senior party leaders emphasized that the issue is central to their agenda and that they will push for the full reinstatement of statehood if elected to power.
The Congress has consistently criticized the BJP-led central government’s decision to revoke J&K’s special status and bifurcate the region into two Union Territories in August 2019. Party leaders have expressed that restoring statehood is essential for ensuring democratic rights, political stability, and development in the region.
“The people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve full statehood with their own elected government, and we will leave no stone unturned to achieve this,” a senior Congress spokesperson said. The party’s pledge comes at a critical time as regional issues remain a focal point in the upcoming elections.
