NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar, while not ambidextrous in the conventional sense, has showcased a unique ability that might suggest otherwise. Known for his legendary right-handed batting, Tendulkar has often demonstrated his ability to bat left-handed for fun, a skill that he recently put on display to celebrate ‘International Left-Handers Day.’

Although Tendulkar primarily batted right-handed throughout his illustrious career, he surprised fans by sharing a video on social media where he effortlessly played a series of well-timed shots using his left hand. The video, posted on X (formerly Twitter), features Tendulkar delivering some crisp drives and slogs with his left hand, highlighting his playful take on the special day.

In the video, Tendulkar, holding a bat, quips, “Today is Left-Handers Day, so everything left can be right and right can be left. Let’s try it out.” This lighthearted celebration resonated with fans, further cementing his status as a versatile and beloved figure in the world of cricket.

Interestingly, Tendulkar also used his left hand effectively in bowling, occasionally delivering left-arm orthodox spin during practice sessions. However, his professional bowling style was predominantly right-handed, whether as a medium-pacer or a right-arm leg-spinner.

Despite these impressive feats, Tendulkar doesn’t consider himself truly ambidextrous. He has often discussed how he uses both hands for different tasks—his right hand for batting and his left for writing and eating.

As the world observed ‘International Left-Handers Day’ on August 13, Tendulkar’s playful tribute to the day was a reminder of the many left-handed legends he played alongside, such as Sourav Ganguly, Brian Lara, and Adam Gilchrist, to name a few. His celebration added a fun twist to the day, showing that even the greatest cricketers can have a bit of fun switching things up.
