NEW DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday stressed the importance of strengthening Hindi by formulating a comprehensive policy aimed at enhancing and preserving Hindi literature, its grammatical structure, and translating modern educational curricula into Hindi and other Indian languages.

While chairing the 32nd meeting of the Kendriya Hindi Samiti—a central body guiding Hindi promotion—Shah highlighted the transformation in language development led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi’s consistent use of Hindi on international platforms and the expansion of engineering, medical, and primary education in Indian languages, Shah said, have fostered an environment conducive to the growth of all regional languages.

“This has created a favourable environment for the development of all languages in the country,” Shah noted during the meeting, which included Union Ministers J.P. Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Arjun Ram Meghwal, L. Murugan, Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi, Parliamentary Committee on Official Language Deputy Chairman Bhartruhari Mahtab, and other senior officials.

Emphasizing that students and youth should learn and think in their mother tongues to unlock their full potential, Shah reaffirmed the Kendriya Hindi Samiti’s mission to develop Hindi as the country’s ‘link language.’ He also outlined three major initiatives of the Modi government for advancing Hindi:

  1. The creation of the “Hindi Shabd Sindhu” dictionary, which aims to become the world’s most comprehensive Hindi dictionary within five years.
  2. Establishment of the Bharatiya Bhasha Anubhag (Indian Language Section) that leverages technology for bilingual translation of government files.
  3. Organizing official language conferences in various regions to promote the use of Hindi across the country.

These efforts, Shah said, are part of a long-term strategy to reinforce Hindi while respecting and supporting the development of all Indian languages.
