Sharad Pawar Stands Firm: No Alliance with Parties Opposing Parliamentary Democracy

Pawar

PUNE: Sharad Pawar, President of NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), firmly asserted on Friday that parliamentary democracy faces a significant threat under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He declared his unwillingness to form alliances with parties that do not uphold this democratic principle. Pawar’s stance follows Prime Minister Modi’s suggestion for NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) and Shiv Sena to collaborate with Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde post Lok Sabha elections instead of merging with the Congress.

Addressing reporters in Pune, Pawar emphasized the precarious state of parliamentary democracy under PM Modi’s administration. He cited instances such as the arrests of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, suggesting these actions were facilitated by the Central government’s influence, indicating a lack of respect for democratic norms.

Pawar reiterated his commitment to parliamentary democracy, stating his refusal to align with individuals, parties, or ideologies that undermine its principles.

Earlier in the day, during a rally in Nandurbar, Prime Minister Modi insinuated that the ‘duplicate NCP and Shiv Sena’ were inclined to merge with the Congress post the June 4 poll results. However, he suggested they should consider aligning with Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde instead.
