KOTTAYAM: Five senior students of the Government Nursing College were arrested for allegedly subjecting first-year students to severe ragging.
The arrests followed a complaint filed by three first-year students, leading to the suspension of the accused on Wednesday. According to the complaint, the ragging had been ongoing since November last year.
The victims alleged that they were stripped naked and subjected to extreme physical torture, including having dumbbells hung from their private parts. They were also stabbed with geometry box compasses, and lotions were applied to their wounds. Additionally, cream was smeared on their faces, heads, and mouths.
The complaint further stated that the seniors extorted money from the juniors on weekends to buy liquor and routinely subjected them to physical abuse.
Following parental intervention, three junior students formally reported the incidents. The investigation is being led by Gandhi Nagar SHO T. Sreejith.
