Three Balls of Chaos! Run-Out Meltdown Costs Delhi as Mumbai Snatch Stunning Win

NEW DELHI: In a heart-stopping finish at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, Delhi Capitals collapsed spectacularly with three run-outs in the penultimate over, handing Mumbai Indians a thrilling 12-run victory in a high-octane IPL 2025 showdown.

Chasing a daunting target of 206, Delhi appeared to be cruising at 183/7, needing just 23 runs off the final 12 balls. But what followed was pure chaos. Ashutosh Sharma, who had revived hopes with two crisp boundaries off Jasprit Bumrah, was the first to fall — run out while attempting a risky second.

The very next delivery saw confusion reign again as Kuldeep Yadav was caught short at the non-striker’s end. To cap it off, Mohit Sharma was run out for a duck on the final ball of the over, leaving the home crowd in disbelief as Delhi’s chase ended in complete disarray.

The collapse handed Delhi their first loss of the season after four consecutive wins, while Mumbai Indians notched just their second victory in six matches.

Earlier, IPL comeback man Karun Nair lit up the evening with a stunning 40-ball 89 in his first appearance since 2022. His 119-run partnership with Abishek Porel (33) had put Delhi in a commanding position, but the momentum shifted when leg-spinner Karn Sharma (3/36) triggered a mini-collapse by removing Porel, Tristan Stubbs, and KL Rahul in quick succession.

Mumbai’s total of 205/5 was built on solid contributions from Tilak Varma (59) and Suryakumar Yadav (40), with Ryan Rickelton (41) and Naman Dhir (38*) adding vital late runs. Rohit Sharma’s lean patch continued, scoring just 18 to take his tally to 56 runs in five matches.

But all eyes were on the final over drama — a surreal sequence that turned a seemingly winnable chase into one of the most jaw-dropping finishes of IPL 2025.
