“Uphold Rule of Law”: MEA Urges Canada Following Attack on Brampton Temple

Canada

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday condemned the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, urging the Canadian government to ensure security and uphold the rule of law.

“We strongly condemn the attack on the Brampton temple and call upon the Canadian authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal at a press conference. “We expect prompt action from the Canadian government to prevent such incidents,” he added.

The condemnation follows earlier statements from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, both voicing concerns amid escalating diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. PM Modi described the November 3 attack on the temple in Brampton as a “deliberate act of violence,” calling the disruptions outside an Indian consular camp “appalling attempts to intimidate our diplomats.”

In his message on X, PM Modi emphasized, “I strongly condemn the deliberate attack on a Hindu temple in Canada. Equally appalling are the cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats. Such acts of violence will not weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Canadian government to uphold justice and ensure the rule of law.”

Echoing the PM’s remarks, Jaishankar expressed concerns over the incidents, noting that Canada has allowed “political space” for “extremist forces” which has led to repeated temple attacks.

On Tuesday, over a thousand Canadian Hindus rallied outside Brampton’s Hindu Sabha Mandir to protest against the rising number of attacks on Hindu religious sites. Rally organizers urged Canadian politicians and law enforcement to take a stronger stance and to cease support for Khalistani activities.
