NEW DELHI: Vaishnavi Sharma made history by becoming the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the U19 Women’s World Cup. The young pacer achieved this remarkable feat during India’s match against Malaysia at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first, and Malaysia found themselves struggling at 30/6 when Vaishnavi came on to bowl her fourth over, having already claimed two wickets. She struck on the second ball, trapping Nur Ain Binti Roslan (3) LBW. On the very next delivery, she dismissed Nur Isma Dania in a similar fashion, and then clean bowled Siti Nazwah to complete her sensational hat-trick.
Vaishnavi ended with outstanding figures of 4-1-5-5, as India bowled out Malaysia for just 31 runs in 14.3 overs.
India’s openers, Gongadi Trisha and G Kamalini, made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 2.5 overs to secure a dominant 10-wicket victory and claim the top spot in Group A.
For her exceptional spell, Vaishnavi Sharma was named the Player of the Match, further cementing her place as a rising star in Indian cricket.
